CorTrust Bank was incorporated under the name of Live Stock State Bank on October 31, 1930, in Artesian, SD. Ole T. Olson was the first president of the bank.
Boyd B. Hopkins Sr. assumed the position of president in 1961. In 1981 Boyd D. Hopkins became president. Boyd B. Hopkins Sr. became Chairman of the Board and remained in that position until his death in 2003. In 2004, Boyd D. Hopkins became Chairman of the Board and Jack E. Hopkins became President.
Live Stock State Bank changed its name to CorTrust Bank in 1993. Only the name changed; the ownership, management, and personal service of the bank remained the same.
The majority shareholder of the bank is the Hopkins Financial Corporation, a bank holding company. CorTrust Bank is an independent community bank, which means the bank is owned and managed by local people. There are over 200 competent staff members that are committed to giving sound financial advice and personalized, community-oriented service.
The Bank opened its first branch in Letcher in 1962. The Artesian Charter was moved to Mitchell in 1977, and Artesian now serves as a branch. Since that time the bank has opened branches in Mt. Vernon, Yankton, Tabor, Vermillion, Gayville, Leola, Bowdle, Sioux Falls, Arlington, and Freeman. In 2000, the Day County Banks, owned by the Hopkins Financial Corporation, and located in Webster, Pierpont, and Aberdeen, changed their name to CorTrust Bank. In September of 2009, the bank purchased its first branch outside of South Dakota by acquiring most assets and deposits of Brickwell Community Bank in Woodbury, Minnesota. We currently serve Woodbury, Minnesota and 16 South Dakota communities.
